- 8-16: I am blessed to have been able to spend my birthday taking my friend Kelli’s
kids Mikie and Cary Galkowski fishing on Justus Lake. Dragging large creek bait be-
hind the boat in my favorite area of the lake near the swimming area produced!
Mikie’s 3 lb. 17.5 inch largemouth was the biggest catch of the day. (Photos be-
low)
Dale Clemmer, Jr (Cochranton); filed 8-11: Dale Clemmer caught the largest musky of
the season so far from Justus Lake reported to the NW PA Fishing Report. It was 46 inch-
es long and weighed 30 pounds. Way to go Dale! (See photo in Livewell)
Sugar Creek
Angler Al (Franklin); filed 8-26: I made my way to Sugar Creek. It was a nice morning to
walk and wade. I carried a few nightcrawlers and a couple spinners which I used to catch
three rainbows and three smallmouth bass. Snagged a small crawfish from the shallows,
rigged it suspended for a drift through a deep cut. Immediately it was hammered. How-
ever, I lost the trophy palomino that found the crawfish irresistible. I may return in the
future to tempt the big trout again.
Allegheny River
Jeff @ Keystone Connection Guide Service; filed 8-30:
Number-wise, this summer has been solid one for me on
the middle Allegheny. The last two weeks we’re seeing
more quality-size bass – ones in the 15 to 19 inch range.
The water is still warm. We are still catching them in-and-
around faster current areas on moving baits like Rapala X-
Rap and Winco’s River Darter. I’m guiding full-time now,
and have expanded my coverage on the middle Allegheny
to include trips that launch out of Kennerdell, fishing upriv-
er towards Franklin and downriver towards Emlenton. Of
course, I’m still running trips out of Parker and East Brady.
