past weekend was good. This is normally the time of the year when the perch bite picks
up. (See photo previous page)
Jeff @ Poor Richards; filed 8-29: The bigger walleyes are coming from the Second Trench
in 75 feet of water. Smaller walleyes are still in the 45 to 65 foot range, along with a lot of
junk fish. Worm harnesses are taking the fish – pink and black, copper and watermelon
blades are best. Perch fishing has finally picked in the last couple weeks. The best bite is
in mornings up to about 9:30 am then it slows down. West of Walnut in 45 to 55 has
been good recently.
David Horvath (Edinboro); filed 8-28: Got a short report this week…I had the opportunity
to make a few trips on the west side of Erie recently. I was out last Friday and the follow-
ing Monday. Perch aren’t schooled up as strong as usual. One boat gets a limit and an-
other boat beside it only gets a few. We caught a lot of white bass and sheephead, too.
We got walleyes on worm harnesses, too. The good news walleyes: we are seeing lots of
apparently two different year classes of 7 to 8 inch walleyes, and 13 to 15 inch ‘eyes.
Walleye fishing next year should be hot! Tight Lines, Dave.
MERCER COUNTY
Lake Wilhelm
Vickie @ Fergies; filed 8-28: Things have been pretty slow here on
Wilhelm in the last couple weeks. Some anglers have been catching
bluegills and crappies between Launch 3 and the Marina. I had one
customer stop in with a 6 pound largemouth he caught. No word on
walleyes.
For Labor Day celebration, Lake Wilhelm Marina will hold a Chicken Anglers on Fishing Pier
Barbeque on Saturday, September 3. Check
their Facebook Page for details.
Brandon Hanna (Grove City); filed 8-27: I’ve been bass fishing on
Wilhelm in the evenings after work. The other night I was sur-
prised to catch this 25-inch walleye! (See photo)
