the time. Also getting reports from the hardcore musky guys that trolling bite is still on.
On the walleye front, I had one young person stop in with a limit of ‘eye he took while an-
chored in 18 feet of water fishing nightcrawlers on the bottom! Sometimes it is simply be-
ing in the right place at the right time.

Laurie @ Duck-n-Drake; filed 8-29: I hate to say it, but I didn’t have a single successful
fisherman stop in this week. It has been quiet. We need some cooler temps to get the
walleyes feeding.

Patty @ Poff’s Place; filed 8-29: August is typically a slow month on Pymatuning, but this
year the prolonged heat has fishing activity way down. A few anglers are catching crap-
pies off the causeway in the early morning. A couple customers are fishing the night shift
and putting a few walleyes in the boat. But the daytime bite is pretty much just catfish.

Russ @ Gateway Tackle; filed 8-29: It has been really slow

at this end of the lake. I’ve been on the lake 44 years and

this has been an exceptionally hot and dry summer. A few

walleyes are being taken on Heddon Sonars and Vib-E by

some anglers fishing deep. There is a 9 pm crappie bite off

the causeway. The hottest bite seems to be largemouth bass

                            – guys are fishing the weedbeds with topwater and doing

very well. Red Denmark is one of the few guys still able to

Kayak angler on Pymatuning catch a few crappies on the deep flats; he is bringing in may-

be 10 crappies a day – taken on his hand-tied hair jigs. Gate-

way is the only shop with Red’s Jigs.

RJ Graham @ Graham’s Jigs (Tionesta); filed 8-28: I fished for bass at Pymatuning on Sat-
urday in preparation for a tournament next weekend, but I barely man-
aged to catch six bass off the bank. Tough day on Pymie!

Ken Smith (Sharon): filed 8-26: We fished Pymie on Sunday, and had our
best day all summer. We caught crappies, ‘gills, perch and rock bass. All
fish came on Bobby Garland Baby Shads fished in 7 to 13 feet of water
over brush. See our cooler shot. (See photo right)

Conneaut Lake
Jerry Hanna@ CDS; filed 8-28: My son Brandon and I fished Conneaut Lake on the 27th for

several hours. We caught 7 or 8 largemouth bass, and lost a 3-pound-plus smallmouth at

the boat. I also broke off another big fish when my fluorocarbon leader broke – I suspect

it was a big smallmouth.
