Shenango River Lake
Drew at Five Points Country Store; filed 8-29: Big white bass are hitting like crazy on the
lake; anglers using minnows, jigs and crankbaits like the Salmo Hornet. Lots of catfish ac-
tion, too with both live bait and crankbaits; channels are running up to 25 inches. Crap-
pies are missing in action.

Rick Como (Sharpsville); filed 8-26: Late summer white bass fish-

ing remains phenomenal at Shenango! The fish are averaging 15

inches with some larger. It’s the best I’ve ever seen in my lifetime.

Nice channel cats are still hitting and can be caught all hours of

the day. Largemouth bass are being caught, and the average size is

very impressive this year. The crappie bite is fair but the average

size of the fish is down this year. Stripers are still spotty but the

bite will get better in a few weeks when the weather cools and the

fish start to target larger shad. (See more photos in Livewell) Como’s white bass catch

Ken Smith (Sharon); filed 8-26: I Fished Shenango on Wednesday. First, I trolled for strip-
ers for a couple hours but only landed a big catfish. Decided to do a little crappie fish-
ing…and that’s what I got: little crappies. I caught around 20 throwbacks before calling it
a day. Looking forward to fall fishing! It won’t be long!

Neshannock Creek
Bob @ Neshannock Creek Fly Shop; filed 8-15: Monday, October 3 at 12:30 pm is our
next state stocking of trout for fall fishing. Now is also the time to get ready for steelhead
and salmon fishing. Stop in the shop, email or call me to make sure we have what you
need or we can order it before the fall season starts.

VENANGO COUNTY

Justus Lake
Angler Al (Franklin)

   - 8-28: By the time I arrived at Justus Lake, the sun was blazing. I asked a couple
guys coming off the lake if they had any luck. Their reply was: six musky follows
but no hook-ups. I had a cooler full of freshly caught creek chubs and planned on
catching whatever wanted one. By golly, a big 36 to 40 inch musky was the first
fish that did. However, it won the battle when it began to thrash at the side of the
boat. I boated half a dozen largemouth bass on the chubs – but the musky would
not be forgotten. (Photo next page)
