Conneaut Lake

Bob Ginarml (Cambridge Springs); filed 7-22: “We are still getting bluegills on the humps
at Conneaut Lake. The size has really decreased. A few fish still have eggs in them. There
are thousands of tiny bluegills in the weeds! One of the younger guys with me caught a
big bowfin; he took it home and ate it. He said it didn’t taste very good but wasn’t bad !”

       Why Marilyn likes Conneaut Lake

Marilyn Black (Cochranton) filed 7-17: “Darl and I made our first trip of the year to Con-
neaut Lake on Sunday afternoon the 17th. Although boat traffic usually slows down Sun-
day evening, there was still an incredible amount of activity until about 6 pm. We had
wanted to check to see if the big post-spawn bluegills had moved deep yet, but there
were too many boats buzzing about to safely and effectively fish the offshore areas. So
we started checking new areas for crappies. We found a productive weedline site. At first
all we caught were small crappies. But by switching baits that we had been using on
Pymatuning to some of our favorite Conneaut baits, we started catching nice ones. The
hot bait for bigger crappies? Bobby Garland Baby Shad in Double Silver! Darl will start
guide trips on Conneaut during weekdays starting August 1. Trips will be either combina-
tion bluegill and crappies, or C&R bass.” (See photos above)

ERIE COUNTY

Presque Isle Bay
Mike @ Lake Erie Bait & Tackle; filed 7-25: “Fishing in the bay has been slow. For the
most part, the smallmouth and perch have moved back out to the lake. Crappie bit has
slowed down. Bass anglers are catching largemouth. Right now the better walleye, perch
and smallie action is out in the lake.”

Darl Black (Cochranton); filed 7-22: “I was on PIB with Dave Lefebre to do a photo shoot
for an upcoming article In-Fisherman Magazine. We only had two hours to get something
