CRAWFORD COUNTY

Pymatuning Lake
Dave @ Richter’s Bait & Tackle; filed 7-25: “The hottest bite going in this heat wave is
catfish. Everyone is catching channel cats. Baitfish schools are everywhere. More walleyes
are being caught at night than during the day – the shallow alewife schools are still
attracting the eyes to the weedbeds and shoals. A few ‘eyes are being taken during the
day by fishing a jig-n-crawler in weeds, pulling a worm harness or trolling cranks on lead-
core line. A few crappies are being pulled off deep cribs. Bassmaster Woody Knis stopped
by to say the largemouth bite has been good for big bass.”

Norm @ Jamestown Marina; filed 7-25: “Not a lot of fishing happening – too hot. More
pleasure boat riding than anything on the lake right now. I’ve had reports from a couple
guys who are catching good walleyes on blade baits – but no details on how deep or how
fishing the blades. In their quest to stop hydrilla, it appears the state is poisoning all
weeds in the lake – long-standing weedbeds on the lower end of the lake are disappear-
ing!”

Vicki @ Duck-N-Drake; filed 7-25: “Catfish and perch – that’s all I’ve heard about over the
weekend. Occasionally a guy picks up a walleye.”

Becky @ Gateway Bait; filled 7-25: “Too hot. Hardly anyone fishing. I’ve heard about a
few walleyes being taken at night.”

Brandi @ Poff’s Place; filed 7-25: “It was a slow weekend for fishing
news. So hot only a few guys are going out. The best bites are catfish
and bluegills.”

Michael Finazzo; filed 7-23: “I got a chance to fish the Pymatuning Finazzo photo
Spillway this morning. I caught this ‘eye on a Green Pumpkin Fat
Ika.” (See photo)

Kenny Smith (Sharon); filed 7/22: “This past week I fished Pymatuning
with Tim Oden. We hang glided the humps and stumps and deeper
brushpiles with Bobby Garland Baby Shads in assorted colors. We took
home forty-two crappies on Saturday and thirty on Sunday. We were
off the water by noon on both days.” (see photo on left)
