We also had three bonus walleye in the 6 to
7 pound range. Walleye hit worm harnesses
with Uncle Josh Pork Crawlers – they do the
job in place of regular worms.” See photo to
right.

Elk Creek Sports and Poor Richards both re- Dave Horvath photo of Erie perch and walleye catch
port that the walleye bite is quickly coming
to an end as the schools move west, and
perch fishing is up and down on the west
side with a good concentration at 50 to 55
feet north of Walnut.

Erie Tributaries
Dan @ Elk Creek Sports; filed 9/28: “There are some steelheads in the lower portions of
Elk but they are not moving upstream yet due to low water. There are some fish as far
upstream as the Cascade Hole. Steelheads are stacked up in the lake waiting for better
conditions. Single eggs, spoons and spinners are taking steelheads. There seems to be a
good number of fish in the 22 to 32 inch range. The NE blow later this week will foul the
lakeshore fishing and keep perch anglers from going out.”

Jeff @ Poor Richards; filed 9/28: “A few more steelheads are showing up low in the
streams but they are not moving with the low, warm water. However, rain today and
Tuesday may put enough water in the creeks to have steelheads moving upstream a little
ways. The cool down in temps should help as well. The expected period of heavy NE
winds will prevent lake shore fishing.”

MERCER COUNTY

Shenango River Lake

Ken Smith (Sharon); filed 9/25: “I had a couple good days on Shenango Lake. On 9/20 I
fished shallow brush in 5’ to 8 ‘ with a bobber and 1/16th oz. Road Runner Head with a

Bobby Garland Baby Shad: I took home 24 crappies. On 9/21, my brother and I went
back to the same area using the same technique; we put 18 crappies in the livewell. We

only kept ones over 10 inches. We caught and released over 60 total crappies in five
hours.”

Editor’s note: Shenango Lake is under going drawdown but there is still ample water at
the Shenango Recreation area to launch a boat.
