Chuck Sari (Franklin); filed 9/21: “I spent time earlier this summer fishing the Allegheny for
walleyes. My son Kevin and I had moderate success using Rapala Shad Rap 5s and 7s.
Starting around the first of September we switched to using river minnows. The last three
Saturday mornings, Kevin and I have been drifting eddies below Franklin down to Belmar
Bridge. We have caught and released 50 smallmouths, 2 walleyes and a catfish. The biggest
bass was 19.5 inches. This time of year as the water cools down the type of minnow isn’t
that important. However, the floating weeds are starting to be a problem now.”

Rich Sari (Kennerdell); filed 9/20: “I’m on the river every day. Your reports are accurate. I
do very well with artificial lures on some days. But most days are tough, especially after
the last couple cold fronts. Walleyes are hard to get, but they are just now starting to hit. I
found a few places for river minnows, but I catch mainly small bass with them – it’s not
worth killing the minnows.”

Launching at Shenango River Lake—Shenango Recreation Area
I ran into a couple at the ramp this past week who figured out a way to prevent backing
their small vehicle too far into the water to launch their boat. Once at the Recreation Area,
they blocked the trailer and installed an extension bar on the tongue of the trailer!
