Minnows. Upon returning home to Pymatuning Lake, a friend of mine from Cortland,
Ohio arrived and we took the pontoon boat out on Pymie for a few hours. I caught 5
pumpkinseeds, 2 perch and a 14” walleye on worms. Of course I had to throw the short
walleye back, but it was the first walleye I had caught in the lake for a while. Maybe it’s a
good sign of things to come as the nights cool down the water
temp.”

Fishing with Darl Black Guide Service will be running bass fishing
outings on Conneaut Lake from now until mid-November. The focus
will be a hunt for big smallmouth bass but largemouth bass will be
caught too. Contact Darl at darlblack@windsteam.net or phone 814-
720-1407 for more information.

ERIE COUNTY

Presque Isle Bay
Jim @ Lake Erie Bait & Tackle; filed 9/25: “It was a windy weekend on the Bay; nothing to
report. Better days are coming.”

Thomas Watral (Erie); filed 9/25: “Perch fishing in the bay has been picking up after the
cold spell and drop in water temp. Lots of limits were being taken this past week. Most
perch have been in the 12 to 14 inch range. Perch are hitting shiners and fatheads on Su-
biki Rigs, jigs tipped with wax worms. Also heard crappies were taken at the West Pier on
Fuzz-E-Grubs. Steelhead trout have been jumping near shore around the East Ave Boat
ramp, and a few have been taken on spinners, spoons, as well as crawlers on slip sinker
rigs. Stop by 2407 McKinley Avenue to get some great deals on tackle and bait before
heading out to your hotspot.”

Lake Erie
Rich @ Erie Sports Store; filed 9/28: “Lake Erie perch fishing continues to be erratic…due
to windy conditions and a late season bite that has been inconsistent. Just when you
think the perch fishing has turned up a notch, it slows back down. The best perch fishing
on the West Side has been right out from Walnut Creek in 54 to 60 feet of water; also
further west towards Elk Creek in the same depths. This is normally the time of year
when perch fishing really turns on but we still haven’t seen catches like we have in the
past 10 or 15 years.”

Dave Horvath (Mercer); filed 9/26: “Fishing west of Erie, the crew of grumpy old men
had a great day on Erie on Friday the 19th. We limited on perch with many jumbo fish.
