pies too, as witnessed by writer Bill Decoteau, who earlier in the day caught a two-
pound crappie and a 1.5-pound crappie with Dan and Garrett. While in the boat, I
caught several nice papermouths with the pros but none close to the big fish. We caught
at least 60 crappies in the afternoon session, plus several other species – all released.”

Marci @ Wilhelm Marina; filed 6-13: “Given the wind over the weekend, we’ve not had
many fishermen in. They had been catching some walleyes; the biggest one in our con-
test right now is 31 inches and over 10 pounds. Bass season opens this weekend, so we
will see more activity.”

Vicki @ Fergies; filed 6-13: “It was a quiet weekend with only a few anglers out due to
wind. Reports I’ve had are walleyes picked up trolling worm harnesses and the old
standard Rapala Minnow between the Causeway and Launch 4. Small crappies are eve-
rywhere.”

Marilyn Black (Cochranton); filed 6-12: “Since the big thun-
derstorms did not materialize on Saturday afternoon, Darl
and I went to Wilhelm for a couple hours. In addition to
some bedding bluegills, we caught crappies everywhere –
from 5 feet of water on the flats to the deep points at 13 to
14 feet and everywhere in between. See them on the Gar-
min Down-Vu, drop a jig to them and catch them. Problem
was not one of them was big enough to bother cleaning.
But here’s a tip for Father’s Day – dad take your kids to Wil- Garmin showing school of crappies
helm to practice catching crappies on jigs without bait. Give
a light action rod with a small white jig, use your sonar to get over a school and drop
down to them. Kids will have a blast!”

Chuck Turnstall; filed 5/31: “My daughter caught this 12 inch crap-
pie at Wilhelm on Friday May 27th.” (Photo on left)

Bill Logan (Pleasantville); filed 5-27: “On May 27th I took 7 bass at
Wilhelm. Two were good fish. Plastic on wood and spinnerbaiting
the flats got them. I never saw another boat fishing for bass.”
