Dave @ Richter’s Tackle Shop; filed 5/23: “Fishing has been pretty good the past week.
Lots of walleyes have been caught including a 29-incher and a giant 31-incher on Friday.
There are a lot of walleyes in the emerging weedbeds right now. Crappie catches have
been up and down based on weather – but mostly up. I’m hearing about a good number
of bass being caught. The bite for most species is only going to get better over the next
couple weeks with the consistent warming trend.”

Norm @ Jamestown Marina; filed 5/23: “While fish catches for crappies and walleyes
had been on the upswing last week after the unexpected snow, the dip in temps coupled
with north wind saw a slow-down in reported catches over the weekend of May 21 & 22
here at the Marina. Warming trend should put the bite back on track.”

Hooker @ Hills Country Store; filed 5/23: “Hey Darl, all week we have been putting pieces

of the puzzle together one day only to have the weather blow them apart the next. Tues-
day the 17th, Hooker Fishing Taxi was honored to have outdoor writer Bill Decoteau from

Massachusetts onboard. We fished in the rain and wind, but found plenty of healthy crap-

pies on a hump in 12 feet of water. We caught them on a variety of jigs tipped with Bobby

Garland Minnow Minders in Blue & White. In all we caught 30 – both black and white
crappies. On Wednesday the 18th, I was blessed to have outdoor radio host Charlie Burch-

field join me for the day. We started at the previously mentioned hump, only to find it had

been abandoned by the crappies with the passing front. We started to search along the

point that runs from the hump to the back of a cove. After eliminating a lot of water, we

arrived at a tree on a point – waves crashing on main lake side and calm water on the

backside. I told Charlie ‘If crappies are not on this tree, there aren’t any left in the lake.’ I

positioned the boat to fish the slack side of the tree with slip bobbers and live minnows.
We immediately started catching fish! On the 19th I had Mike Hollabough and his wife of

DuBois celebrate his birthday on the Taxi. With the fish committing to the shallows to

spawn under stabile weather that day, we caught fish all day – landing 91 black and white
crappies. Mike and his wife kept 20 for a fish fry. On the 21st and 22nd, my guests were

from Flint, Michigan. For two days we caught bluegills from spawning flats and crappies

from pads on the new Bobby Garland Baby Shad Swim’Rs fished on 4 lb. Gamma Line.

They were so impressed that they have scheduled a return trip in September. All baits
