Russ @ Lake Wilhelm Marina & Snack Shop; filed 5/23: “We are now up and running for
the season. Boats and bait are good to go! Here are a couple catches from this past week…
Gary Marsh with 31” walleye weighing 10 pounds; customer with 26” largemouth bass
weighing 6.5 pounds. The bite is on!” (See photos in Livewell)

Angler Al (Franklin); filed 5/23: “I spent three hours trolling a crawler
harness and Hot-n-Tots for walleyes at Wilhelm but didn’t have a hit.
However, a colleague of mine, Greg Anderson, caught a trophy crappie
there on the 14th. It measured 15.75 inches. He caught it and others on
a homemade jig. The fish were schooled in 12 to 15 feet of water in the
lower end of the lake.” (photo on left)

Steve Fleckenstein (Clarion); filed 5/22: “We went to Wilhelm on the 19th, hitting a few
spots from shore. We caught some bluegills on a fly/maggot combo and a few on jig &
maggot. The shad must be spawning there – bunches of them swimming around the shal-
lows. We hit a couple other spots, catching crappies and ‘gills. I caught one crappie that
measured 11.5 inches. Some of the gills measured 7.5 inches. The crappies like split-tails
and Bobby Garland Itty Bit Swim’R tipped with maggots.”

RJ Graham @ Graham Jigs (Tionesta); filed 5/13: “This evening I
fished Wilhelm and we did very well. We caught 28 bass – all but
two on buzzbaits. It was a blast!” (Photo on right)

VENANGO COUNTY

Allegheny River
Lou Letterle (Franklin); filed 5/23: “I fished the Allegheny River a few times since your last
Report, and we have caught some smallmouth bass while dodging ‘on & off’ rain showers.
See photo. On a separate note – in an effort to land more hooked fish, I have been fishing
a couple of saltwater inshore rods which have a parabolic action, meaning the rods bend is
over the length of the blank, not just the tip section. This type of rod is very shock-
absorbing and helps keep fish buttoned to the hook – especially when fishing in current
and using braid line. This type of rod has helped me land more fish.” (Photo in Livewell)

Gene Winger (Oil City); filed 5/23: “We’ve been on the river almost every day the past two
weeks and have experienced some great days mixed with a few slow days. Two weeks ago
the bass were still out in deeper water and chasing tubes. But since then they have moved
into shallows and are hammering Winco’s 3.75” Solid Body River Darters. Still catching fe-
