NW PA FISHING REPORT for May 25, 2016

This Report is brought to you by PA Great Lakes Region tourism with additional sponsor-
ship from Wiegel Brothers Marine and Gamma Fishing.

We answer the question “What’s biting in the lakes, stream, and river of Crawford, Erie,
Mercer and Venango counties?”

PA Crappie Camp – Last week a group of outdoor communicators and representatives of
several tackle companies participated in a three-day media fishing event on Pymatuning
Lake, Conneaut Lake and Shenango River Lake. They gathered information and photos for
future articles on the area. Photographers included Bill Decoteau, Jim & Matt Gronaw,
Jack Hanrahan and Larry Claypool. Some of their photos will be found in this issue of the
NW PA Fishing Report in the Pymatuning Lake, Conneaut Lake, Shenango Lake and Live-
well sections of this Report.

French Creek – Flowing through all four counties

The flow on French Creek is near perfect for late spring fishing for walleye and small-
mouth bass. If you don’t have a boat to fish area lakes, by all means get yourself over to
French Creek – and send us a report on your success. There is great fishing the entire
length of the stream from Union City to Franklin. Remember, right now is catch & release
season for bass in Pennsylvania, so don’t keep any smallies.

Angler Al (Franklin); filed 5/23: “On a few trips to French Creek the last couple weeks, I
caught average size smallmouth bass on live creek baits. Slack areas and cut banks seem
to be where they are holding right now.”

CRAWFORD COUNTY

Pymatuning Lake
Mike Tullari @ Pymatuning Lake Association: “The PLA 2016 Walleye Tournament held
on May 14 exceeded its goal of participants by having 102 teams participating. Just 36
teams weighed in a total of 96 walleyes. Eli Detweiler of Garrettsvile, OH and Marty Host-
ler of Middlefield, OH finished in first place with three ‘eye weighing a total of 12 pounds
4.1 ounces. Proceeds from this tournament will be used to build and install 125 porcupine
cribs on June 8th at Wilson Launch. Please come on June 8th to help build the cribs. Wilson
Launch Area is on Route 6 west of Linesville, PA. Lunch will be provided. Spend some time
helping and take a ride on one of the boats to see where they are being placed. Leave a
message at 724-418-1501 if you and your friends can help out.”
