GAMMA LINE Story
Kenny Smith: “On Thursday July 21st, I fished the Jamestown
area of Pymatuning. The crappie bite started out strong. I
had maybe a dozen keepers in the box during the first cou-
ple hours. Then the bite died. I said to myself that I would
make one more pass through the area before trying another
spot. Then BAM – a smashing hit. It was a heavy fish. I
thought it was a big catfish since I saw bubbles come to the
surface. I had this fish on my 5-foot hand-held rod I use for
hang-gliding. It was spooled with 6-pound Gamma Panfish
Line. It took me about five minutes to get the fish close
enough to the surface to see it. It was a musky – a big
musky. Somehow I pulled out my phone and started record-
ing as I continued to fight the fish. I fought him for another
15 minutes before we both tired out. Problem now was all I had with me was my EGO
Crappie Reach net. Just then my friend Mark from Beaver PA pulled alongside and we got
the musky into the boat. It was 39.5 inches long and weighed 15.5 pounds. My 6-pound
test Gamma high-vis line held up to this big toothy critter!”
