largest being 47 inches. Lot of fish catching that should carry over into upcoming Memorial
Day weekend.
Dave @ Richter’s Bait & Tackle; filed 5/22: The entire lake is
fishing very well – North and South – for just about all species.
The ratio of keeper walleyes to short throwbacks is better than
anyone can remember. Black crappies are in shallow cover
spawning and white crappies are moving onto slightly deeper
bars getting ready to spawn. Getting reports of bluegills spawn-
ing, too. And muskies are still biting. Alewives are coming up to
spawn but with the excellent daytime walleye bite, no one is
concerned about going out at night for ‘eye. It’s a fantastic time
to be fishing Pymatuning Lake! Everything is feeding right now
and the weather looks like it will hold going into the weekend. If Richter’s photo
you haven’t been to Pymatuning this year, now is the time!
Laurie @ Duck-N-Drake; filed 5/22: I have a good selection
of BnM Poles in right now at very reasonable prices; there
are different models for different crappie fishing techniques.
Stop in to check them out – these are ones used by NW OH
Crappie Club and other professional crappie anglers like Dan
Dannenmueller who did a seminar at the Pymatuning
Sportsmen’s Club last week. I’m hearing about lots of good
catches. Some guys are getting a ton of bluegills with mag-
gots; they say the ‘gill are spawning already. Crappie action is Duck-N-Drake photo
very strong up North in the stumps and down South as well.
Jason and Joe Phillips caught a stringer of crappies using a jig-n-
th
minnow in 6 to 7 feet of water on the 17 . Anglers seem to be
getting walleyes on two patterns – drifting with crawlers on jig in 6
to 7 feet of water, and trolling Shad Raps and Flicker Shads in 18 to
19 feet. For all you crappie and bluegill fishermen,
Sam @ Robinson’s Bait; filed 5/22: It’s absolutely crazy how good
the fishing is right now! Water temp in mid-60s. I have reports of
hefty female crappies in shallows but eggs in them not ripe
enough for them to spawn. Reports of bluegills bedding in shal-
lows already; that’s wild – but then again it’s been a strange
spring. My customers are picking up walleyes trolling PINK crank-
baits at 1.2 mph on the old roadbed in North End. Two customers
caught several muskies in North End. Everything is happening at Poff’s Place photo
once!
