Allegheny River
Steve Udick (Oil City); filed 3-12-17: The fishing really picked up the last
st
days of February and the 1 day of March. I fished with Jim Allen on the
th
th
28 . On the 28 of Feb the walleye were the most aggressive I’ve ever
witnessed. Fish chased my bait to the shore and almost beached them-
selves. We had our first action on bass of the year, having seven on and
landing four. The bass looked like they just crawled out from mud –
which they probably had. Water was up to 50 degrees and bit murky. I

picked up five walleyes (all in the 22 to 25 inch range) on Rapala Husky
Jerks (Firetiger and Shad Raps (Regal Shad and Firetiger). (See more photos in Livewell)
Jeff Knapp @ Keystone Guide Service; filed 3-11-17: My boat partners and I enjoyed
good walleye fishing on the Allegheny River during the warm
February weather. Toward the end of the warm spell river smal-
lies turned on and we boated some nice bass in the 19 inch
range. Not much fishing since then, as wet, windy and cold
weather has dominated. I’m looking forward to warmer weather,
and the first consistent smallie action, as well as Pymatuning
walleye. Photo info: Dave Lehman with a brace of river smallies
from a late February trip. (See photo)

Pete Cartwright @ Smallies on the Yough Guide Service; filed 2-
25-17: The warmest day in February produced lots of nice fish on
the Allegheny River including 20 and 21 inch smallmouths, and
25 and 26 inch walleyes. This was by far the best day I have ever
had in February. All these fish were caught on 412ubes from 412
Bait Company on barbless hooks using Gamma Line. All were re-

leased. (See more photos in Livewell)

and two bass on chartreuse tubes in February!
- 2-22: Six and half hours with drizzle for most of the time. We
caught and released 12 keeper ‘eyes and 3 bass. Here is a
double. Life is good! (See photos in Livewell)
