MERCER COUNTY

Bob @ Neshannock Creek Fly Shop; filed 2/7: While many have helped the shop prepare
for the stocking of Lunkers on Saturday, March 11 by buying raffle tickets and/or donating
to the Lunker Trout Fund, we could really use some more help. Always remember that
100% of the raffle ticket sales and donations help pay for lunker. I am also seeking addi-
tional float-stockers for Saturday March 4th for the state stocking only. We are now taking
reservations for our Female Anglers Fly Fishing School, Young Anglers Fly Fishing School,
Fly Fishing Lessons and Guided Fly Fishing. Contact Bob Shuey at Neshannock Creek Fly
Shop; phone 724-533-3212; rashuey@gmail.com for more information.

Trout Streams
Jeff Knapp (Butler); filed 2/10: We are still catching nice wild trout from
NW PA Streams. Remember that most stocked trout streams become off
limits as of March 1. (See Livewell photo)

Angler Al (Franklin); filed 1/22: What a pleasure when winter weather
acts like spring! I was able to turn over a few boards in the backyard to
come up with a dozen or so red worms. Then I headed for a trout stream.
I registered my First Catch of 2017 by duping several native brown trout. Angler Al’s 1st
This 11 incher was the largest of nine caught – all release unharmed.

Chris Wolfgong (Oil City); filed 1/22: Made it on the water for the first Chris’ 1st 2017 fish
time in 2017. I fished the fly-fishing section of Little Sandy in Polk. I had
two fish on, landed one. Caught one a streamer; other fish took a Prince
Nymph. Water was big high and had some color – but fishable.

Knapp photo Allegheny River
Jeff Knapp @ Keystone Connection Guide Service; filed 2/10: It’s been
a good news/bad news deal on the Allegheny. The good news is the rel-
atively mild temperatures have opened the river when normally locked
up with ice. Bad news is that the river has been too high to fish much of
the past month. When conditions have allowed, we are catching some
real nice walleyes, mostly on bucktail jigs tipped with fathead minnows.
