Oh what a strange winter! We had an early freeze in December and then a late December
thaw…next a January freeze up followed by a January thaw…then a partial refreeze in Feb-
ruary followed by a complete February thaw. Looking ahead in the 10 day forecast, the en-
tire next week is forecast as 50 degree days and no below freezing temps at night. I hate to
burst the wishes and dreams of ice angler, but boys and girls it
is time to get real – any hope of safe ice forming on the lakes
the rest of this winter has pretty much melted away. In addition
to expectations of decent steelhead fishing in the next few
weeks, I would get the open water tackle ready and put away
the auger.
