April Tip from Bassmaster Elite Pro Dave Lefebre: Fishing the RipStop
In our region, April is transition time for bass, with bass coming
shallower during warming trends. Even in the same day…there
may be no bass shallow in the morning but by afternoon the flats
might be alive with bass. During the cooler water temp of the
morning, those bass might be caught on a deep jerkbait in 17 feet
of water. But during the warmer part of the day, you may need to
be fishing in 3 to 6 to 8 feet of water on the flats. This is the time
for the RipStop jerkbait – a totally new action jerkbait from Ra-
pala. Compared to typical jerkbaits, the Rapala RipStop Minnow is
a smaller, more slender jerkbait. But it is heavy enough to cast
nicely on baitcasting equipment. It is an erratic bait when jerked
and then paused, coming to a dead stop after a little shimmy. The
tab tail has a shiny gold or silver finish that provides additional
New Rapala RipStop flash. It’s the tab shape of the tail that stops the bait in its track
after you jerk it. The RipStop has an action that bass cannot resist.
