Kahle Lake

RJ Graham @ Graham Jigs; filed 6-19: “A bud-
dy and I fished Kahle this past week. It was the
best bite I’ve ever had in 12 to 15 feet of wa-
ter on Carolina Rigs. The frog bite is also on.”

EARLY SUMMER LIVE BAIT TIP FROM ANGLER AL

“Crawfish: When freshwater crayfish lose their hard exoskeleton during the early summer
the new skin is very soft for about two days, thus they referred to as soft shell crabs or
peelers. Everything in the stream or river will eat them. Instead of searching for them by
turning over rocks during daylight hours, I use a headlamp or flashlight to gather them at
night. After spotting one, use the light beam to in front of them to distract them. And with
your other hand slowly slip in behind for a quick pick-up. Place them in Tupperware con-
tainer with holes in the lid and layered moistened paper towel; store the container in the
refrigerator to keep them alive and soft for several days.

“Depending on the size of the crawfish, I use a #6 hook or larger. To
keep the crawfish alive, pierce the hook upward from the bottom side
of the tail. To drift dead soft shells, run the hook upward through the
head and out between the eyes. Throw a peeler crab in the right
place the first time and you never need a second cast because a smal-
lie, walleye, carp or rock bass will take it right away.” Angler Al
