Tip from Fishing with Darl Black Guide Service: With over a dozen specific crappie fishing
rods rigged for guiding, there is only one line you will find on my reels: Gamma. Any for
the majority of my crappie techniques, the Gamma line choice is their Optic Yellow Pan-
fish Line. In my opinion it is simply the strongest most manageable copolymer line for its
line size class on the market – and over a career of angling I’ve fished almost every brand
out there. Spinning outfits for casting 1/32 to 1/8 jigs are loaded with 4-pound test. After
a year of testing the line, I can say this 4-pound line handled every incidental larger fish
encountered, including walleye to six pounds, bass to five pounds, mid-size pike and
catfish. On my bobber rods and single pole dipping rods, I have 6 or 8-pound Optic Yellow.

Once again this season, in order to have more anglers
try Gamma’s Panfish Line, Gamma will be giving away a
sample spool of 4 or 6 pound test to a lucky contributor
once a month on NW PA Fishing Report. Always check
the Gamma Tip page to see if your name has been
drawn from among that issue’s contributors. Gamma
Line is drawn the first Report of each month, and a lure
packet of lures selected for NW PA is drawn the second
Report of each month.
