The heat goes on! Yes, I know I’ve been harp-
ing about unseasonably warm weather for
late summer/early fall in the last few Reports.
Here we are, one full week into October and
experiencing a string of humid 80 degree
days. Okay, the weather bureau is calling for a
major cool down by the weekend. But right
now our inland lake temperatures are around
10 degrees above normal. Some anglers have
even reported an increase in lake water tem-
peratures given the heat. Fortunately, the Al-
legheny River is kicking out smallies and She-
nango Lake offers a decent bite for bass,
stripers and crappies. Steelheads that arrived
a bit early at the creek mouths are now
starting to move upstream. But we need cool-
er inland water temps for the fall bite to real-
ly turn on. Let’s hope the “cooling” lingers
and doesn’t immediately turn into early snow
storms.
