Well, it appears we are coming to the close of
an excellent summer of fishing as Mother Na-
ture begins to prepare the fall scene for us.
Yes, the walleyes are still biting in Erie but
northern winds are becoming a problem. Yes,
Shenango is still putting out good catches of
hybrid stripers. Yes, catfish catches are boom-
ing. And yes, the big bluegill bite at Conneaut
continues. But changes are in the air. The first
brown trout and steelhead have been sighted
near stream mouths. The upper Allegheny is
choking up with dying vegetation — but once
the floaters are gone it’s time for big smallies
and ’eyes. By mid-fall over at Pymatuning the
Gene Winger scores a big summer river smallmouth now
walleye and crappie bite will pick up. Other
and then. . But Gene knows when the river cools in the fall,
lakes and streams will cool down with fish go-
more big ones will be biting. Glory days are coming !
ing on the fall feed, and anglers will be please
to see that.
