Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Can you believe how early the ice went
out on most of our area lakes? Everything was open by March 1!
Right now the hottest bites are crappies and perch in the shallow
bays at Pymatuning and at Presque Isle Bay. However those ice-
out crappies will be moving out soon (only to return in late May
for the spawn). Walleyes are just starting to move on the points at
Pymatuning, so waders are getting ready. The smallmouth bass on
the Allegheny are stirring. Fishing activity on many other lakes re-
main fairly slow. Cold temps coming this weekend, but fishing suc-
cess should pick up with the next warming spell.
